Special Education

Per the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SDGVA, San Diego Unified School District manages all paperwork, human resources related to the evaluation, monitoring, and implementation of special education services related to special education students. Students who meet the criteria for special education have an IEP (Individualized Education Program).

By law, SDGVA is required to address new special education services and placement within thirty days of the enrollment date; therefore, enrollment packets need to reference that the student has a current Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan and if the parent or guardian can provide a copy that will expedite the process.

As stated in the MOU, approved by SDGVA Board of Director on July 29, 2010, Option 1 was selected. For a copy of the existing MOU please refer to SDGVA’s website, Board Agenda, July 29, 2010 Special Educations MOU. Summary of services: line item 6.1.8

“The District shall be responsible for providing all appropriate special education and related services, including development of written IEPs, in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws for all students with exceptional needs.”
