San Diego Global Vision Academy, SDGVA
I went on a field trip with my daughter and her class, as we were walking around the campus of USD she looks up at me and says "mom this is the best decision you've ever made." When I asked her what she meant her response was "By moving me to SDGVA, this is the second college campus that i've been on in less than a month, at my last school they took me to the strawberry patch....what am i supposed to learn at a strawberry patch"

I'm saying all that to say SDGVA is molding SUPER STARS. Thanks ladies

My son is a second grader at SDGVA. He comes home everyday with a smile on his face and is eager to share what he learned in school. It is a big change from the school he attended previously. The teachers are wonderful and truly care about their students and work hard to create a safe and happy environment where kids are learning so much. We are very happy with SDGVA and think it is such an excellent option in the mid-city area or anywhere in San Diego for that matter!

Where to begin....I came to SDGVA looking for someplace safe for my daughter, and found so much more. The teachers are all experienced professionals, all have advanced credentials, and each has several years experience. The teachers as a collective founded this school, and it is an independent charter school. The teachers experience and passion show through, from the way they teach, the care and pride shown in the campus, and the care they show the students.

Academics and excellence are emphasized, and students who need extra help, get it, period. The school's emphasis is on literature and writing, but there are plenty of extras, lots of P.E., Arts and Science are still taught, and the teachers themselves run the 6 to 6 program, free of charge. The school offers free/reduced school lunches through SDUSD's food service. There are multiple, affordable options for after-school enrichment, Science Club, Fine Arts, Yoga, Caesar Chavez Service Learning Club, among others. All students get expert instruction in Tae Kwon Do, in age-appropriate ways, building both physical fitness, confidence, and coordination. The school has a Girl Scout Troop that meets on campus.

The administration is responsive, and eager for input and ideas. Dena Harris, the CEO has the experience and business acumen to see this school become its vision. Christine Kane, the Educational Provost, is a well-seasoned and experienced educator with an absolute passion for seeing the students in her care learn and become successful.

My child has blossomed here, academically and has gained a new confidence. All of the children are respectful, polite, and take pride in their school. Parents are welcome at the school, and volunteers are well-appreciated.

Simply put, I whole heartedly recommend SDGVA to any parent looking for a safe, supportive school, that expects academic excellence from its charges.

I could not imagine sending my children to any other school. The teachers and staff are truly one-of-a-kind. We are like a big school family at SDGVA. The site is in the heart of Normal Heights. All of the teachers hold Master's Degrees by choice, not because they were motivated to move along a district pay scale. As a charter school they are in no way connected to the SD Unified School District. They must show continued student achievement every year in order to keep their charter. The school has a main focus of writing across content areas and service learning. They offer Tae Kwon do as a part of the weekly curriculum. Students receive P.E. 3-5 days per week depending on grade level. I personally know of a student that lost 30 lbs because of the amount of physical activity the students engage in. Please check out this school K-6.

A great school with a very enthusiastic and highly qualified staff. The teachers are hard working and dedicated to their students and families. SDGVA has fantastic afterschool enrichment programs, a rigorous academic curriculum and the small school setting allows for a friendly atmosphere for the students.

I just wanted to express to you how happy I am with Julian's new school, San Diego Global Vision Academy. I had a good feeling about it from the first time I stepped into the school, and so far it has met or exceeded my expectations. Given my children's and even my own educational background, to choose to attend this school was definitely taking a new direction, but it just felt right.

I couldn't have even imagined that any new school would just pop up in my neighborhood and I'd read about it in a small local paper, especially one that fit the bill so nicely. I was very curious and open-minded about it, gave it a shot, and now I call it my miracle that I didn't even know I wanted! I am sure you can tell Julian really enjoys school, and you and his class in particular. Sometimes he's just a little sad when he thinks about his friends but he sees many of them on a regular basis and has come to terms with it. And the fact that he is very happy with the friends he has made at SDGVA certainly makes the transition easier.

I like all the teachers I have met, the interaction I see between the students and teachers. I am very happy with his art program. I think the homework is relevant and appropriate. I like the general mood at the school. Everyone seems calm, happy, and helpful. There is an ease between the teachers and the students that I believe is very conducive to learning. So I just wanted to take the time and share with you all of my positive thoughts about our new school. If there is ever anything you need from me, all you need do is ask. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Monica
